Note as of July 2005: In October 2004 Remy started having seizures and was diagnosed with ideopathic epilepsy. While we're figuring out his medication levels, Remy is running Preferred agility and jumping at 4" instead of 8". He is having a great time and quickly moving through the Preferred classes.

Remy has 609 championship points and 8 double Qs.
A dog requires 750 championship points and 20 double Qs to receive the MACH title

46.05 seconds (SCT 42). Not the type of course we can gain a time advantage on, made worse by bad footing. Very late take off at two bars in bad surface caused them to fall. Double fell (early take off). 66.59 seconds (SCT 72). A good performance with solid contacts, but I gave "stop" cues at the panel jump with Remy carrying speed... he clobbered it. The surface was really poor today, but Remy still put in at least one OK performance. I think my handling has gotten a little sloppy with the ease of 4-inch jumps.

46.39 seconds (SCT 44). A tight course, our line was consistently wide (too amped?). Knocked two single bars, probably due to racing to catch up. 61.30 seconds (SCT 71). A solid run in all aspects, even the table. Great contacts (as on the 30th). 2nd place. 13 points We shook off some of the rust from yesterday. It looks like Remy can once again run at 8 inches.

47.41 seconds (SCT 49). A little rusty and unsure of the footing on dirt, Remy was a touch slow and cautious. Two single bars fell. 66.05 seconds (SCT 63). An excellent run except on the table, where 10+ seconds of delay cost a Q. Definite rust. Remy's first day back at 8-inches in almost a year. Seemed a little rusty, but encouraging.

45.53 seconds (SCT 44). Remy was over time but clean otherwise. There was one wide turn, and a slip in the weaves, but I don't think that would account for the time. Tired? Tight wheel? Lack of confidence in footing? 59.11 seconds (SCT 70). Remy looked solid on a fun course, but I handled the triple badly, slowing down when I should have run through. Predictably it fell. Remy looked good all weekend, although the speed issue on the jumpers course is a little worrying. These runs felt natural, like the old days.

39.15 seconds (SCT 42). I made a stupid handling error at the entrance to the weaves and Remy followed me to the second pole, costing a Q. He was plenty fast on a course that I thought would be tight on time, particularly for his second run of the day. 58.72 seconds (SCT 68). Remy was rock solid on a very trappy course. We were a little cautious particularly at the later jumps, but Remy was still plenty fast. 2nd place. 13 points. It was good to see Remy running so well back-to-back again. The problems today were simple handling errors.

44.15 seconds (SCT 46). Clicked lots of bars, so clearly Remy was tired. Just 40 minutes between the two runs, but Remy is also at a higher Pb dose now. One bar fell. 60.94 seconds (SCT 74). Bad luck - jump 4 was just behind a small rise. I figured this would help Remy's jump, but it turns out he couldn't see the jump until he was on it and it was too late to jump. The pattern (good run, tired run) was similar to the first time he was getting used to the Pb. Still the times (and performances) were promising.

45.12 seconds (SCT 44). This was a course with lots of straight running sections, and few options for cutting distance. Our time reflects that. Also dropped a bar (#16) which was sliced too aggressively. 54.40 seconds (SCT 69). This was a tricky course but Remy and I were in great form. Every cross worked and Remy was blazingly fast. 4th place. 14 points. Another great day - Remy seems to be nicely recovered. Remy's jumpers time seems to be back where it was over a year ago.   62.17 seconds (SCT 68). Remy's jumping looked good, but a handler error pulled him out of the weaves early. Otherwise clean, on a somewhat tightly wheeled course. 45.25 seconds (SCT 49). Remy looked like his old self on this twisty course, but his legs slipped out on takeoff for jump 7 and he dropped the bar. 68.44 seconds (SCT 71). On his second run Remy looked very tired and a little wobbly on his feet, stumbling out of tunnels, dropping two bars, and not able to make it up the A-frame (short run-up). It isn't clear whether the drugs affect Remy's ability to recover, or if the effort of the first run intensifies the sedative effect for the second run, but he can't perform two runs at a time.

73.xx seconds (SCT 76). Remy was much slower than usual and his jumping form was off. Dropped one bar (racing to the tunnel on the other side) and missed the weave entrance (handler error). 42.27 seconds (SCT 44). Remy knocked two bars early (a single and the double) but without video we don't know why. I made a horrible rear cross into weaves, and he missed several poles. 67.34 seconds (SCT 73). A better looking run but both spreads fell, and Remy missed a dog-walk/tunnel discrimination. Sloppy from a lack of sleep, most likely. Remy and I were both tired from a late-night hockey game the night before. This showed in sloppy handling and weak jumping.

44.15 seconds (SCT 44). I accelerated awkwardly for a front cross, and Remy raced to catch up knocking both bars around the cross. Otherwise nice on a tightly-wheeled course. 58.89 seconds (SCT 72). Remy looked really good on this course. A tunnel very obviously followed the triple, and Remy seems to have charged towards the tunnel, mis-timing the triple. Good runs with small errors. I'm happy. We recreated the triple-tunnel problem in class (using the dog walk). The strategy seems to be for me to hold back and call the jump.

A little wide at points, but great jumping. 3rd place. 1 point 59.47 seconds (SCT 73). An awesome run, tight line, on short grass and dirt. It was a little slippery out, but that didn't seem to affect Remy's jumping. The double fell because he jumped it like a single. Otherwise great. It is so nice to be back on grass again. Remy looked good and we both had a much better attitude.

40.22 seconds (SCT 42). This surface was almost as bad as the previous trial. Remy brought down five bars on this course, at least three of which were due to footing. 58.52 seconds (SCT 69). Remy dropped the triple at #6 and I just gave up, so we missed the weave entrance and a tunnel discrimination trap. We just should not enter outdoor dirt trials. The surface is so loose that Remy can't jump, loses confidence, and checks up at every bar.

46.63 seconds (SCT 46). We arrived and ran without walking the course, and barefoot. Remy had the same footing problems and couldn't get any height along one side of the course where he took down two jumps. 56.48 seconds (SCT 65). The footing wasn't as bad in this ring and Remy carried more speed, but the course was very tightly wheeled. I took him too sharply into the A-frame and he slid off from the first slat. 43.91 seconds (SCT 42). Remy was having trouble with the footing (and the bottom bars for each jump were resting on the ground in front), so he checked up for each jump. This kept the bars up, but resulted in being over time. This is the first time Remy hasn't been under time when clean in 8 months (and he still Q'd then). 65.08 seconds (SCT 78). More bad footing, and since I was fixing the surface I never got to walk the whole course. Almost got a W at the start, missed the last weave pole (a combination of Remy stumbling in the deep holes and my body language). We kept all the bars up tonight, and Remy looked good, but this surface is terrible. The night trial format meant that we ran after 11pm (after the trial closing hours). We're skipping Saturday's run - this wasn't fun.

The course was loaded with challenges, most of which Remy handled very well. But at a tunnel-tunnel gamble, I called out to him and he came, earning an R. This is Mark's yellow wingless triple... I should be careful with that one. Lots of early takeoffs for jumps. Later I took off too early at the end of the weaves and Remy followed. 64.91 seconds (SCT 68). The course time must have been wrong - Remy wasn't running that slowly on this course (Desi was only 9 sec faster). But the triple fell (take off too early) so it didn't matter. Remy's takeoffs were early today, and combined with poor footing the jumping results weren't very good. He actually ran some very good lines today.

44.37 seconds (SCT 47). This course was filled with front and rear crosses (at least if I wanted Remy to have a good line to each jump). But for some reason I threw in an extra cross near the end that caused him to take a bad line to #18 - bar down. I need to take the extra steps to get Remy on the right line - we have time! 61.91 seconds (SCT 77). A very good run, with Remy on a tight line the whole time. But I left out a front cross at the end of the weaves and that made me run around a wing to the table. Carried too much speed, and he flew over. I should have slowed down on the way to the table - we have plenty of time. My handling wasn't very crisp today. Most things worked, but I made a few errors when I rushed things. Remy handled all of the tricky stuff on this course great (other than a little hesitation getting on the table) only to drop the triple at the last jump. Grass (and hot)
40.09 seconds (under SCT 42). Remy almost went crittering before the double, but I got his attention before he got a refusal and he hauled himself over, and went on for a clean run. First place. 2 points 56.73 seconds (under SCT 77). We were running great until jump 17, after the dog walk. Remy carried a ton of speed into this 90 degree turn, and just didn't clear the bar. It was really unpleasantly hot today (in the 90s) and none of the dogs were very up for the runs. Very few excellent dogs qualified today.

41.53 seconds (under SCT 43). We ran jumpers second and I started to get conservative at the end of the course, running the outside rather than crossing. Second place. 1 point 62.05 seconds (under SCT 75). I felt like Remy and I weren't in sync for a lot of this course, and we went wide at two places, losing time. Second place. 18 points Bart ran a better line, and had a better teeter to beat us on the standard course by 0.7 second. Double Q #6

39.23 seconds (under SCT 42). Remy looked good on this course, although rear crosses at one point added a lot of yardage. I didn't follow through on the double (in a corner) and he took down the rear bar. 54.89 seconds (under SCT 68). Remy was in top form, and this time there weren't any problems to get in the way of a Q. First place. 26 points Remy was 3 seconds faster than MACH2 Bart on the standard course and 2 seconds slower on the jumpers course.

Dirt
43.16 seconds (under SCT 46). Another great course by Remy, but once again he knocked the triple, this time taking off early. The jump was in the same part of the ring as yesterday, which still had bad footing. 62.51 seconds (under SCT 70). Remy looked amazing on this run, driving hard through some extremely hard jump sequences and handling a 180° chute-weaves sequence like a pro. But he left the table at "three" (on his own) so we got a 98 and no Q. Another day of awesome runs without any Qs. No 8" B-dogs qualified yesterday, and only Desi did today. These were just plain hard courses, and I thought they were fun!

Dirt
38.73 seconds (under SCT 40). Great run by Remy until late in the course where the footing on the landing side of jumps started to get poor, causing Remy to lose confidence and take off very late for the triple. 60.32 seconds (under SCT 74). A really tough course with one of the hardest weave entrances we've seen: a 90° on-side entrance with a tunnel sucker just off to the left. Remy was on a great line but was pulled in, and touched the front edge of the tunnel for a wrong course. Looking at the tape of the standard run (and last Sunday's jumpers run), maybe I need to shorten my stride on critical parts of the course so my foot plants don't look so significant to Remy.

37.41 seconds (under SCT ??). Remy was jumping great and we had a wonderful line, but I didn't slow him down before the weaves (and did a little stutter step at the entrance) and he blew past the first pole. I'll work on slowing down a little. 64.05 seconds (under SCT 77). This course had four contact/tunnel discriminations, and Remy did great until the fourth. My body language at the jump before was "go on", not "wrap", and so he did, and I couldn't call him off the A-frame. Later I slipped on mud and we got an R at the teeter. This was a no-Q weekend, but Remy looked awesome in all four runs. Both errors today were handler faults, although Remy should take a little more responsibility for weave entrances.

Dirt
43.35 seconds (under SCT 47). Remy ran very well but bad footing before the triple (after the weaves) left him unsure and caused a knocked bar. Really a very good performance by Remy. 62.86 seconds (under SCT 78). Remy was blazing fast, but sneezed heading into the weaves (this is the second time this has happened) and missed the first pole. Otherwise a great run... although he would have placed fourth. Even without a Q Remy looked great today. His jumping was solid (very few tapped bars) and his handling was great on some very tricky courses.

37.57 seconds (under SCT 43). Once again a bad front cross caused a bar to fall. On tape I noticed that I was facing Remy as he came over the jump, rather than finishing my front cross. I need to get fully into position for the next jump. 57.53 seconds (under SCT 71). Another really solid run from Remy with good contacts, a fast table, and clean jumping. First place. 26 points We like the Fairplex!

40.78 seconds (under SCT 42). I expected time to be tight but Remy was driving hard on this course. I made two rather rough front crosses, the second (at #16) caused Remy to drop his feet and the bar. 56.39 seconds (under SCT 74). Remy was just amazing with perfect contacts and really tight handling. We did our first rear cross onto the A-frame! We were lucky that the triple stayed up (he rattled it pretty hard). First place. 34 points Other than my bad handling of those two crosses on the jumpers course, we were in top form today. With these points Remy has qualified to compete at the 2004 AKC Agility Championship.

41.38 seconds (under SCT 44). This is the type of jumpers course we love - laid out like boxes with lots of twists and turns. Remy's footing wasn't super sure, but he ran great. Fourth place. 2 points 58.55 seconds (under SCT 69). A really hard course with all sorts of odd angles and a dogwalk/tunnel discrimination. I had to call Remy off tunnels twice, but he was working great. Second place. 15 points Our fifth double Q was a lot of work for both of us. The jumpers course was a Q factory... almost half the dogs qualified.

37.84 seconds (under SCT 38). A really twisty course, but it must have been wheeled tight because we didn't have much time even running a clean line. Still Remy was good except for a couple of bars that fell late in the course. 58.26 seconds (under SCT 66). Another hard course with tight times, but Remy was working hard and looked great. Second place. 10 points Remy was not well this week, having eaten four PopTarts on Wednesday. It was clear that he wasn't feeling 100%, but he still looked great out there.

Damp Grass
42.45 seconds (under SCT 46). A twisty course that was well suited to Remy's style, running a conservative line we still made good time. The double was set wrong, and Remy knocked the back bar, but the judge saw that it was wrong and allowed us to demonstrate the five obstacles around it to get a Q. First place. 6 points 62.96 seconds (under SCT 76). It was raining lightly but this didn't affect Remy until the table, where he took several seconds to get in a proper sit. Too bad, because he was only .6 seconds behind the first place dog. Second place. 19 points Our first trial in Georgia was a success, with our fourth double Q. Also Ouzo ran his first course and qualified on the preferred jumpers course!

45.25 seconds (over SCT 40). Diane ran Remy for the first time, and did very well. The only problem was a rear cross that was started too early, leading to a refusal (and skipping the next jump after bringing Remy back on course). 66.15 seconds (under SCT 70). Remy left the chute entrance for an R. On tape I can see that I had called him off the A frame, but then I was stalled (standing still) at the chute and he didn't have much confidence in our course. If I had talked to him (push push or go go) he would have kept going. We were all tired after a long weekend of earthdog, but Remy was game and our courses were good. Unfortunately, little bobbles hit us on both courses.

Grass
39.31 seconds (under SCT 44). I didn't think we'd do well on time with this course, but Remy ran fast, including a long set of jumps alternating at right angles. Unfortunately we took a few bars down after I bobbled the line on another part of the course (putting Rem off stride). 55.85 seconds (under SCT 67). Remy was pretty good but I mis-handled a three obstacle sequence, ending up with pulling Remy off the table. From there I tried a few new things, but got too far ahead in two different jump sequences and some bars came down. I didn't feel sharp today, and Remy brought some bars down. It just wasn't our day. One thing to note: Remy may have a problem taking off too early on the triple if it has wings. We need to go back and see if this has been true in the past.

Grass
37.31 seconds (under SCT 43). This is about as fast as Remy has ever run in jumpers, but he was clicking a lot of bars during the course and brought down the final bar (#18). It looks like he took off too early, either because I was too far ahead or maybe because the timing standards (8" in front of the jump) threw off his timing. 58.30 seconds (under SCT 74). Remy was blazingly fast and really focussed on this course, and was only 4 seconds slower than Desi (who is usually 8-10 sec faster). First place. 30 points This was the first time that Remy qualified at this site, but he's always been fast on the tight, short grass. The jumpers grass is a little spongier and a little less level... I'm going to be a little more careful there tomorrow.

Remy started 2004 with 192 championship points and 3 double Qs.
